“Trust in the LORD, and do good”

Waiting can make an ordinary day feel suspended. We imagine that life will begin again when the answer comes, when the door opens, or when the situation finally makes sense. Meanwhile, the people and responsibilities nearest us can fade from view.
Psalm 37 speaks into a world where wrong seems to flourish. It does not ask its readers to call evil good. Instead, it pairs trust with action: do good. The two belong together. Trust releases the demand to control the entire outcome; goodness asks what love requires within this day’s reach.
That may mean keeping a promise, preparing a meal, making an overdue appointment, or refusing to pass along a cruel story. These acts do not purchase God’s attention. They are ways of living faithfully while you wait.
Stillness also has a place. You can stop rehearsing every possible outcome for a moment and tell God the truth about your fear. You can ask for help. Patient trust is not emotional numbness, and it does not prevent you from taking needed action.
You may finish today without the answer you hoped for. You can still finish it having practiced trust. The waiting is real. So is the possibility of doing good within it.
